  12.      Getting Started:
  13.      
  14.      Installation of the WDXT-GEN requires three steps:  1) Confirming 
  15.      BIOS ROM type; 3) Installing into host computer; 4) formatting the 
  16.      disk drives.  To complete installation, you will need the following:
  17.      
  18.      Two cables (3 if using two drives); MFM type drive; screwdriver; 
  19.      MSDOS Version 2.0 or later; *DEBUG utility; *FDISK utility; *FORMAT 
  20.      Utility.  (*normally included with MSDOS);

  23.                  HANDLE THE CONTROLLER BY THE ENDS OF THE BOARD
  24.                 SOME OF THE CHIPS ARE STATIC SENSITIVE AND DAMAGE
  25.                   MAY OCCUR IF THE BOARD IS INCORRECTLY HANDLED

  28.                                  Confirming BIOS
  29.      
  30.      At location U13, please confirm that your WDXT-GEN BIOS ROM is part 
  31.      number 62-000128-followed by any three numbers  (this BIOS ROM is 
  32.      referred to as Western Digital's Super BIOS).  If your controller has 
  33.      any other BIOS, contact Technical Support at 1-800-777-4787.

  89.      Verify that the host computer contains at least a 135 watt power 
  90.      supply.  There are no jumpers to select.
  91.      
  92.      If you are using a standard 20 megabyte drive, you may refer to the 
  93.      Simplified Formatting Instructions after completing the hardware 
  94.      installation procedures.  If your drive is a non-standard drive (i.e. 
  95.      20 megabyte drives with other than 4 heads/615 cylinders, or hard 
  96.      disk drives with a formatted capacity greater than 20 megabytes) you 
  97.      will need to refer to the Dynamic Formatting instructions after 
  98.      completing the hardware installation procedure.

  100.      If you do not know your drive parameters, return to the Storage 
  101.      Controller menu to access a listing of the most common drives and 
  102.      their parameters which we have provided for your convenience.  If 
  103.      your drive is not listed, refer to your drive manual or contact the 
  104.      manufacturer.
  105.       
  106.      Now that you have verified BIOS and determined the drive parameters,  
  107.      you are ready to install the controller and drive into your host 
  108.      computer.
  109.      
  110.                                      WARNING
  111.                         MAKE SURE COMPUTER IS TURNED OFF
  112.                            AND POWER IS DISCONNECTED 
  113.      
  114.                   Installation of Controller into Host Computer
  115.      
  116.      Remove blank expansion slot bracket and save for future use.  The 
  117.      screw will be used to hold the controller board into place.

  133.      INSTALL CONTROLLER INTO ANY AVAILABLE SLOT NEAR THE POWER SUPPLY 
  134.      EXCEPT SLOT 8

  136.      Connect the 34-pin (wide control cable) connector to J1 on the 
  137.      controller board.  Make sure that Pin 1 of the cable connector goes 
  138.      to Pin 1 on the controller board.  Pin 1 of the cable connector is 
  139.      typically located on the color coded side of the cable.
  140.      
  141.      Connect the 20-pin (data cable) to J2 (Drive 0 Data Connector) on the 
  142.      controller board.  Make sure that Pin 1 on the cable is connected to 
  143.      Pin 1 on the controller board.
  144.      
  145.      If a second drive is being installed, connect the Drive 1 data cable 
  146.      to J3.
  147.      
  148.      Verify that the disk drive(s) is(are) installed properly.  This 
  149.      includes correct placement of drive select jumpers and drive 
  150.      terminator installation.  Refer to the disk drive installation manual 
  151.      for further information.  DO NOT USE THE RADIAL SELECT OPTION.

  153.      Install the drive(s) per manufacturer's instructions.

  155.                                      CAUTION
  156.                 WHEN ROUTING CABLES, BE CAREFUL NOT TO PINCH
  157.                 THEM.  CABLES MUST NOT GET CAUGHT BETWEEN THE
  158.                 COVER AND THE BOARDS, NOR SHOULD THEY OBSTRUCT
  159.                 ANY AIR FLOW PATH FROM FANS OR VENTS.
  160.
